The Arts Society Woodford Green belongs to the large umbrella organisation, The National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Society, which was founded in 1968 and renamed as The Arts Society in 2017.
There are now nearly 400 member societies within the United Kingdom and in other parts of the world.
The aim is to provide members with stimulating and entertaining talks and outings on aspects of art history, across a wide-ranging list of subjects, periods and continents, in a sociable and friendly setting. We also look for opportunities to support local schools with art education, and to take out the arts to a wider audience, through (for example) volunteering.
Our branch is nearly 50 years old and offers:
Sociable monthly meetings, at Bancroft’s school, at which there is an hour-long talk on a specific arts subject (click here for the current list)
A wide range of outings, walks and visits – to museums, art galleries, central London, areas of local interest (click here to the current list)
A couple of holidays each year – usually, one in the UK, and another abroad (click here for details)
We welcome visitors and new members – click to find details of how to join and the cost and if you have any more general queries you can contact us here.
We meet at Bancroft’s School (Bancroft’s Preparatory School Hall, Woodford Green, Essex, IG8 ORF) nine months a year (following the school terms) for the monthly meetings/ talks, usually on the second Tuesday evening of the month. The talks usually begin at 8pm sharp – we recommend you arrive well before then, to socialise and find out about any outings in which you may be interested.
